Setting Up Your Reef Octopus Regal 150 Internal Protein Skimmer

To set up the Reef Octopus Regal 150 Internal protein skimmer you will need to:

A. Place the protein skimmer body on a flat surface. Insert the pole into the center hole followed by the bubble plate, and screw them in place.

B. Insert the holder on top of the skimmer body, and screw it in place.

C. Place the silencer and plastic cap on top of the holder.

D. Attach the O ring to the bottom of the collection cup, and add this unit on top of the silencer. Attach the drain plug or tubing to the collection cup.

E. Put the top cover onto the collection cup.

F. Attach the vent pipe to the side hole of the protein skimmer body, and attach the O ring onto it followed by the gate valve facing upwards.

G. Attach the shim to the hole on the front of the protein skimmer body, followed by the water pump. Attach the venturi valve onto the water pump.

Now that the Reef Octopus Regal 150 Internal protein skimmer is assembled, it is time to place it in your sump. Position it in your sump along with the water pump and keep in mind that it should have a water level depth of 6 to 8 inches for maximum performance.

How To Operate Your Reef Octopus Regal 150 Internal Protein Skimmer

A. Plug the water pump into your power source.

B. Press the power button on.

Leave the water pump on maximum speed for about a week to break the protein skimmer in.
Note: you may take the collection cup off during this time period and allow the water to just go back into the tank since the protein skimmer will not be at peak performance yet.

C. Adjust the speed of the water pump until your micro-bubble foam is popping just into the collection cup.

Using Your Reef Octopus Regal 150 Internal Protein Skimmer Water Pump Controller

The water pump that comes with the Reef Octopus Regal 150 Internal protein skimmer is the VarioS-2S. This water pump has a detachable controller allows the user to attach float switches, pause the water pump, adjust the speed of the water pump, and attach the controller to a third party controller.

When the controller is detached, the user may rotate his water pump outlet in 90 degree intervals to face upwards, downwards, or horizontally.

Using Speed Control:
Your VarioS-2S water pump controller has 5 speed settings ranging from low to maximum speed. By pressing each button you can adjust your water pump's GPH speed to adjust your micro-bubble foam to be at the correct level just below the collection cup. This is very easy and mess-free adjustment.

Using Pause Control:There are two options on the water pump controller to pause your water pump. You can press "pause" once to pause the water pump for 15 minutes or press "pause" twice to pause the water pump for 60 minutes. During the pause duration of time, if you wish to unpause the water pump simply press the "power on" button once. The pause option is great to do water changes or tank maintinence, or feed your fish.

Using Float Switches: You can attach a float switch to the controller to float in the water. You can set the float switch to stop the water pump if the collection cup gets full, or if the water level of your sump gets too high. The button controlling the float switch is the button on top of the button circle, labeled "FS". There are 2 lights located on top of the controller labeled "FS ON/OFF" and "FS STATUS" that show the status of the float switch. If the "FS ON/OFF" is lit up, the float switch is on and operational, and vice versa. If the "FS STATUS" light is on, the water pump is not working and is paused because of your float switch. This means you should check your float switch and see what water level is too high.

Using Third Party Controllers: The VarioS-2S controller allows you to connect your water pump controller to another third party controller for controlling your aquarium you may have, such as the Neptune APEX or Reef Angel. The VarioS-2S controller connects to another controller wih its 0-10V input(3.5 mm audio port). After connecting this water pump controller to a third party device, you can tell its connected when the "0-10V" button is lit up.

Maintenance

To keep your Reef Octopus Regal 150 Internal protein skimmer working good, you should disassemble and clean the protein skimmer once per month.

Daily you should check that the collection cup is not full so that your protein skimmer can keep on collecting.

Every week, check that the tubing and valves are not clogged with debris or salt so that water is effectively flowing through the protein skimmer.

The Reef Octopus Regal 150 Internal protein skimmer has a 2 year warranty on the pump body, a 1 year warranty on the pump rotor, and a 1 year warranty on the protein skimmer body by Coral Vue Reef Octopus.

Reef Octopus warrants the pump to be free from defects and workmanship under normal use and conditions for the warranted period of time. The warranty is limited to repair or replacement of broken parts that are broken due to workmanship.
