The Aqueon Quietflow Submersible Aquarium Pump offers an extremely quiet pump at a fraction of the cost of other pumps. This comes at the cost of smaller heads than other pumps, making this pump not for everyone. For larger heads and quiet operation I suggest the Tunze Silence Recirculation Pump.

The Aqueon Quietflow Pump has variable control on all of their pumps, with the lowest power setting being 50%. The wattage on these pumps are very low, which keeps the pumps from heating the water too much. The impeller is stainless steel, which makes it more durable to debris than ceramic shafts. The cord comes to 6 feet, just under two meters.

Set-up

The pumps come fully assembled except for the suction cups. These simply need to be pushed onto the bottom of the pump. The suction cups help cut down on noise dramatically, so be sure to use them.

Remember to keep the pump away from walls, possibly with some form of padding underneath the pump. While the Aqueon Quietflow Pump does run quietly, additional padding will only make it quieter. If the pump is against a wall it will transfer vibrations into whatever it leans on, making it much louder.

The pump is not self priming, so if you plan on using it externally you will need to prime it before plugging it in.

Finally remember all impeller products will typically have a noisy period where its components are not set in place properly. Give the Aqueon Quietflow Pump about one week to settle down and it will be even quieter. If this is too loud to run where your tank is, simply place it in a bucket of water and let it run somewhere where the noise will not bother you. Just be sure to aim it sideways, as it can shoot water fairly high without a tube attached.

Tubing

Connect the tubing of your choice as securely as possible, giving it a few tugs to make sure it cannot come off easily. The tube can transfer vibrations to the stand. Keep the tube free from contact with the stand if it is hanging free, with only the outlet coming into contact with the top of the tank. If the tube will be held in place then you should have no vibration issues.

Assembly & Cleaning

Cleaning the pump only requires removing the cover and impeller. It is important to keep the grate, impeller and the impellers mount clean. Thankfully the water flowing through the pump will keep it relatively clean for a long time. I do recommend cleaning this pump at least every other month. This will help make sure nothing too bulky has gotten caught in the pump and is causing excessive wear. Typically if this happens the pump will be much louder due to the added resistance.

Warranty & Lifetime

The Aqueon Quietflow Pump comes with a one year warranty, followed by limited customer support. Aqueon customer support is quick and friendly, often repairing or replacing pumps at no cost with less effort than other manufacturers. To use this warranty you will need to hold onto proof of purchase. This works just fine with a purchase id from amazon or physical receipts.

The lifetime of the pump is quite variable, with many users seeing around two years of life. This will be extended if you clean out the pump every month or two. As with most pumps and powerheads, keeping stress on the impeller down is key to extended lifetime. This is covered under the cleaning section.
